Newsroom

The Bureau announces outcomes. Where an outcome would have occurred without Bureau involvement, the announcement records the Bureau's involvement rather than the outcome's likelihood. Releases are distributed as an official notice service and are also available by feed.

Corrections

Bureau corrections are unusually important. A correction records what an earlier version of a release stated, what it now states, and whether the underlying event changed. In the great majority of cases the underlying event did not change.

Media guidance

  1. Cite a release by its number and date. A release cited without its date may be a prior version.
  2. Quotations attributed to the Acting Administrator are approved as issued and are not available in extended form.
  3. The Bureau does not confirm whether a case is open. It confirms whether a case is under review, which is a different measure.
